[Web] 网站导航设计－Design Navigation（2）：

网站导航设计－Design Navigation (1) 里总结了主要的navigation的种类，这一篇主要总结一下其他用来帮助users来get around 的 contents；summary一下设计navigation时候需要注意的地方。

• Breadcrumbs

breadcrumb trails主要用于hierarchical的网站中，用来告诉用户现在的以及之前所途经的位置。设计breadcrumb时需要

1. 包含网站的所有levels

2. 放置在banner和main navigation的之下，页面内容之上

3. 为在breadcrumb里面显示的之前所经过的页面创建hyperlink

4. 如果想要展示页面之间的关系，使用» (Alt+0187)， 而不是>>（greater than）来防止screen－reading software把它读作 “greater than，greater than”

• Faceted browse:

Faceted browse 是一种特别的filter。不同的是，用户不是在一个filter中列出需要的条件，而是随着浏览的过程，一步一步narrow down去想要找的内容。这样可以防止出现“0 results found” 的情况。




总结

当设计Navigation的时候要注意：

1. 从内容页面开始

从内容页开始设计考虑而不是从home page开始。因为内容页才是真正为用户提供具体的所需内容的value added的页面。

2. 整理link to 内容页的页面们

work on the pages that link to the content pages. For simple hierarchies, the page may just need to list out the content in the section. For database structured sites, you may have more than one way to get to the content. You may design gallery pages or comparison pages. Don’t forget to think about A-Z indexes, site maps and other helper pages.


3 设计home page

This process prevent risks like that your navigation that only works if people work fro the home page inward. Do you still remember? when people come from the search engine to your site, most of the time what they see is not your home page but some page inside.

4. 进行usability test可用性测试

e.g. to learn: Does the IA still work now it has been made into navigation? Can people see the main navigation bars and know how to use them? Do people notice and use other navigation elements such as related links? When do people use navigation elements other than contextual links? Where it’s relevant, can people use within-page navigation elements such as comparison features? If you’ve used something less common, such as faceted browse, how well do people understand what to do with it? What content works well (and what doesn’t work quite so well)? Do not start all your testing from the home page.
